Unitz Online offers a form of
9-1-1 service (9-1-1 Dialing) that is similar to traditional
9-1-1 (911) service but has some important differences and
limitations when compared with enhanced 9-1-1 service (E911)
available in most locations in conjunction with traditional
telephone service. With both traditional 9-1-1 and E911
service, your call is sent directly to the nearest emergency
response centre. In addition, with E911 service, your call
back number and address are visible to the emergency
response centre call-taker. With Unitz Online's 9-1-1
service, your call is sent to a national emergency call
centre. The call centre operator will confirm your location
information and then transfer your 9-1-1 call to the
emergency response centre nearest your location. You should
be prepared to confirm your address and call-back number
with the operator. Do not hang up unless told directly to do
so and if disconnected, you should dial 9-1-1 again.
Your 9-1-1 Dialing service is activated when you subscribe
to Unitz Online service. You should ensure your location
information that you provided when you registered with Unitz
Online is kept current at all times. In case you are not
able to speak during the 911 call, the call taker will
dispatch emergency response vehicles to your last registered
address. Remember that you must update your 9-1-1 Dialing
information if you move your device to a different location,
travel in Canada with your adapter, and/or if you add a new
line to your account.
Remember that the 9-1-1 Dialing
service will not function in the event of a power or
broadband outage or if your broadband, ISP or Unitz Online
service is suspended or terminated.
You should inform any household residents, guests and other
persons who may be present at the physical location where
you utilize the Unitz Online service, of the important
differences in and limitations of VoIP 9-1-1 Dialing service
as compared with E911 service, as set out above.
Using 9-1-1 when Traveling
Unlike traditional phone lines, you can use Unitz Online
anywhere. Unitz Online service is portable to any location
with broadband Internet access. Since Unitz Online uses the
address you provide to determine the nearest emergency
response centre, when you move or travel with your phone
adapter in Canada, you must update your new location.
This service allows you to
have as many additional telephone numbers to your i-Line.
You can choose a number from any city as long as it's
available in our number availability tool. A virtual number
is for incoming calls. When dialed, it will ring to
your telephone just like your primary number does.
This feature is similar to a
virtual number, the only difference being that when the
telephone rings it will have a different ring pattern.
This can be used to identify which number was dialed or can
be programmed in a fax machine to only answer a distinct
ring.
Reverse Calling is a unique
feature whereby a caller who is not a subscriber to our
service may place a call to a subscriber and not incur a
long distance charge. The non-subscriber would call one of
our local access numbers and
enter the telephone number of the Unitz subscriber. Our
system then processes the call by calling the valid
subscriber and connecting the two parties.
Calling outside of your plan
is possible with our per minute billing. All minutes must be
pre-paid unless other arrangements are made. Please call our
customer service for more details. To view a complete list
of North America and International rates

Call Waiting
permits callers to get through to you even when you
are on the phone with another call. You will hear a
beep indicating an incoming call. You will then be
able to put your current caller on hold and answer
the new call. You can continue to alternate between
parties as often as you'd like. It's like having two
lines while paying for only one.
How does it work? When you are on a call and the
line beeps, simply press the flash button or switch
hook. You will be connected with the waiting party
and your original party will be placed on hold.
Press the flash button or switch hook again, to
reconnect to the original party and hold the waiting
party. If a third caller tries to reach you they'll
get a busy signal or be forwarded to voicemail.
This feature can be enabled and disabled simply by
dialing *70 from your i-line.
3-way calling
3-way calling
allows you to create an instant conference call
between yourself and another two parties. No special
equipment is required to use Three-way calling.
To initiate a 3-way Call:
While you are
on a call press the flash button or switch hook
on your phone.
When you get a
dial tone, dial your second contact.
When the
second contact answers, press flash or the
switch hook again.
You and your
two contacts will now be connected on a
conference call.

house, office or cell phone. Call Forwarding makes
your life easier because it gives you the control

when you don't. Note that the number you forward
your calls to must be permitted by your outgoing
calling plan.

Voicemail
is a service that allows callers to leave messages
when you are not available to answer your phone. Our
voicemail permits you to record your own greeting so
that when calls are routed to your voicemail, they
will hear your voicemail greeting and have the
option to leave a message.
To access your voicemail from your i-Line, simply
dial *98.
To
access your voice mail when you are away from home,
simply dial your telephone number, wait for your
greeting and press the * button.
A reliable Internet connection
is necessary when using an Internet Telephone Line. Internet
calls require 90 kbps of consistent upload/download speed to
make and receive calls. If your connection experiences any
packet loss you will notice voice quality problems. A
minimum connection speed of 512kbps is recommended (most
cable, DSL or satellite connections are above the 512kbps).
